This entry is for my anak bujang, afif for his effort in organizing the "ikan bakar" dinner ngan adik-adik n sepupu. The first batch of ikan bakar tu accidentally fell down into the pembakar n menjadi bahan bakar , mungkin kena improve teknik membakar. Alhamdulillah, the second and 3rd batch has happy ending... THANK YOU AFIF & GENG - Nanti masak lagi OK
Perencah Ikan Bakar
Bawang Besar, Bawang Merah, Bawang Putih, Cili Kering, Cili Merah, Kunyit Hidup, dan Halia di kisar halus. Campurkan sedikit santan pekat. Sapukan perencah dalam ikan, simpan sedikit perencah + minyak untuk direnjis semasa membakar. Gunakan serai yang telah diketuk untuk merenjis.

rossya: Afif kata bila auntie Rossya nak datang, cepat cepat beritahu dia....
MamaFami: kat Malaysia nanti, bolehlah buat ikan bakar ni dan jangan lupa share resepi ye |

masak ayam with buah jentik jentik
|
|
Masak ayam with buah jentik jentik is a Malaysian version of Cranberry chicken...
The idea to cook chicken with buah jentik jentik is adapted from cranberry chicken. Mrs Hildy Kerney from Kalamazoo was very kind to serve us this delicious chicken dish on our last visit there. As Hildy put it, this chicken dish has two parts: oven baked halal chicken and cranberry sauce. Now, where do I find fresh cranberry in Penang?. Then the idea to replace cranberry with buah jentik jentik came during one of my visit to the pasar and seeing the buah jentik jentik for sale. Both cranberries and jentik jentik shares similar qualities, both are rather sweet and sour, about the same size even though the colour is not the same.

Resepi Ayam Masak Buah Jentik - Jentik - response to Rossya
iklan sikit: buah ni dipanggil buah jentik jentik sebab bila nak makan, kita jentik buah tu dan kulitnya (in 3 separate pieces) akan terbuka dan nampaklah buahnya, ada gambar buah jentik jentik disertakan
ayam - goreng separuh masak
bawang merah, bawang putih, cili kering (5 biji), cili merah (3 biji), tomato biji (2 biji), halia (1/2"), belacan ( 1"), kunyit hidup (1/2"), jintan manis (1/2 sudu teh), jintan putih (1/3 sudu teh) - semua ni dikisar halus
Tumis semua bahan yang dikisar halus tadi, masukkan serai yang telah diketuk. Bila berbau wangi, masukkan ayam. Kemudian masukkan santan pekat ( harganya 50 sen, em - lebih kurang 1/2 cawan)
Bila dah masak, barulah masukkan buah jentik jentik tadi. Buah ni rasanya masam masam manis.
Seperti biasa garam dan gula secukup rasa.
Untuk resepi yang Mrs Kerney tu, dia grill chicken breast in the oven. Lepas tu dia buat cranberry sauce - tapi of course tak masuk belacan. Santan pula dia ganti dengan full cream. Spices pun tak dak juga, resepi ni dah diubah suai supaya ada Malaysian flavour sikit. - Selamat Mencuba, |
| Quote: | MamaFaMi & Rossya: rasa buah jentik jentik ni masam masam manis, jadi bila masuk dalam ayam tu macam masukkan perisa masam masam manis lah, dalam penerangan di atas tu, rupa rupa nya buah jentik jentik ni banyak kat utara Malaysia, so kena turun mai utara lah nampaknya nak tengok buah jentik jentik ni..., and MamaFaMi thanks for the cite scoring tu, dah dapat dah, thank you. Masak is my most effective activity to release stress - best, stress hilang, family pun happy
Harlina: yang ubah suai resepi masukkan belacan dalam ayam tu dapat idea dari rancangan channel 11 Astro - food & travel, so sekali lagi, sapa nak rasa buah jentik jentik kena turun mai utara, negeri Perak, Kedah, P.Pinang atau Perlis
nabialishad: yang bestnyerr masa kecik kecik dulu ialah bila nak makan buah ni kena jentik - a gentle jentik will do - lepas tu pop- kulit dia pecah tiga n dapat makan isinye yang actually manis manis masam...
kak kham: buah ni boleh makan mentah mentah, buah ni dari segi rupa parasnya macam adik beradik rambai dan duku, rambai agak masam dan duku manis tetapi kulitnyer tebal. Buah jentik jentik ni pula kecik about 1/3 saiz rambai, dan kulit agak firm n nipis dan tak tebal macam duku

I had work to do in Seremban and found myself in Sekolah Sains Seremban (SESAR). I found this wonderful herb garden near the laboratory and I can't resist but to take one/two pictures of these wonderful plants.
| Quote: | rossya: memang best tengok orang ada herbs garden kat rumah ni, yang ni herbs garden kat sekolah, rajin budak budak sekolah (ke gardener or cikgu depa) jaga...
nabialishad: memang, teringat dulu dulu kat kampung nenek keliling rumah bermacam macam herbs - tak payah jaga pun, yang best tu ada satu masa tu campak biji kundur kat belakang rumah and some time lepas tu, pi godeh hutan kat belakang rumah jumpa 4 biji buah kundur about 10 - 15kg each - alhamdulillah rezeki. Tapi itu dulu, sekarang kat bandar kena ada cara sendiri lah kot |

our sunday afternoon cooking...
|
|
We (Nadiah, Ammar, Afif and myself) had a very ambitious start that Sunday afternoon. We visited several fp's and decided that it will be: macaroni pie/bake, cornflakes macaroon from http://rossyabakes.fotopages.com/ and cinnamon rolls courtesy of kuzi @ http://mozihfa.fotopages.com. We started with cinnamon rolls by virtue that this sweet delicacy will take the longest time, followed by macaroni pie. By the time habis uli dough tu, nadiah kata nak pukul putih telur for the cornflakes macaroon has to wait, so next time insyaAllah...
Cinnamon Roll Kuzi resepi Kuzi
A
1 Cup whole milk
¼ cup water
1 stick (1/2 cup) melted butter
1 ¼ egg OR 1 extra large egg OR 1 ½ medium egg
Campur sikit (1 teaspoon) vanilla
Beat the egg well, jangan sampai berbuih, just pecah kuning and mix well. Mix all the liquid
B
4 ½ cup bread flour ( recommended brand : King Arthur)
½ ? cup superfine sugar
1 packet dried yeast/ about 7 grams – Fleishmann
C
¾ -1 stick melted margarine
5 table spoon powdered cinnamon (brand Wal Mart)
1 cup packed light brown sugar
(mix well the powdered cinnamon and brown sugar)
D
ounce cream cheese
1 stick margarine
1 ¾ cup powdered sugar (kalau nak manis, put more sugar)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Masukkan semua bahan A dalam satu bekas. Masukkan B dalam mixing bowl. Put A into B, uli – sampai lembut dan macam bread texture. Let it rise until double the size – about 1 hour. Then punch the dough. Roll into a 15” x 8” – about one laptop size, thickness is about 1 cm.
Sapu melted margarine from C, then tabur cinnamon and sugar (also from C). Roll the dough
Notes: milk and water – suam
Cup: use standard cup measurement
Use only one egg

bun manis n couscous with beef stew
|
|
It's been quite a while since I last updated my FP - since dah officially back to work, there's always something to do, anyway, I don't wish to discuss work on this gorgeous Saturday afternoon so I visited a few FP's for cooking ideas. I finally tried bun manis from http://mamafami.fotopages.com/ because Afif voted for it. Thank you for the recipes. Sambil masak bun manis tu, I tried couscous with beef stew - the bun, couscous and the beef stew makes a gorgeous combination too
my own note: the buns tu taklah se"cantik"bun dalam FP mamaFami tu, ok for first try, nonetheless yang suka sangat of course the daddy and the kids, afif siap nak bawa balik asrama untuk kawan kawan, so insyaAllah esok buat lagi...
| Quote: | mamaFami: terima kasih juga kerana sudi share resepi dalam fp, rasanya resepi Kak Liza kot, n terima kasih to Kak Liza too...mungkin kat Malawi kuskus dia mahal sikit kot...tak palah bila balik Mesia boleh cuba
kakliza: thank you2, tapi jangan lah tabik, kiteorng pun best juga, sambil lawat fp dapat resepi, tried n tested pula tu
kuzi: cinnamon rolls tu, insyaAllah...
rossya: aáh, bulat pula bun tu, agaknya kalau masukkan dalam bekas mungkin bentuk dia lain sikit kot. Janganlah terliuq je, kalau nak mai lah...
luq: memang semuanya sedap....
kakak: janganlah sedihhhhhhhhh, ni mama testing dulu so that bila kakak n muaz balik nanti, lagi eloklah...
kuzi: buat list jangan tak buat, ajak luq sekali buat list he he.... |

This homemade cringe can be contagious, after mee kuning, the kids and I decided to try homemade tofu pula. We visited a few FP's for the recipe but couldnot find one. Next step was to google for homemade tofu recipe. There is never lack of recipe's here but Nadiah and I finally decided on a recipe from this website: http://www.recipezaar.com/59298.
Unlike homemade mee/noodle - we find homemade tofu more challenging with it's own set of trials, the soybean milk has the tendency to overboil. I was prepared for this to happen but I did not expect the soybean milk to suddenly overboil in a flash. There are two different process here, first from the soybean to soybean milk - nak perah the soybean milk can be very messy especially if your helpers are the kids.... second is to coagulate the tofu - this takes a good 12 hours or so, it's quite a long wait for eager helpers.
Homemade Tofu Recipe #59298
For those who are really keen... Times are guesses. Posted in response to a recipe request
1 pint soya milk (shop bought or homemade) ( our soy milk was homemade)
1/2 teaspoon epsom salts or nigari
4 tablespoons hot water
1. Put soya milk in a pan and bring to the boil.
2. Dissolve the Epsom salts or nigari in the hot water and add to the milk.
3. Leave for 5 minutes to curdle.
4. Line a sieve with a piece of muslin.
5. Pour curdled mixture through, separating the curds from the liquid.
6. Discard the liquid.
7. Fold muslin over top of sieve and place a weight on the top.
8. Leave for 1 hour. (I left this overnight ~about 12 hours)
9. Remove the curds, which are now tofu, and store in a bowl of water in the fridge till needed.
10. (makes approx 4 oz).

I am now officially back to work and takes a while to update these pages but still enjoy visiting other FP's
kuzi: insyaAllah bila kuzi mai nanti tak tau nak masak yang mana satu dulu, mee ke, ikan terubuk ke, tofu ke, nampaknya satu week-end tak cukup ni
Rossya: janganlah tabik springg, semangat mai tengok gambaq kat FP rossya juga...
mamaFami: cepatlah sampai seru buat tahu tu, nanti boleh share the experience |
| Quote: | aza: try google using the following key words: tofu coagulant, nigari, gypsum salt, calcium sulphate or epsom salt, I think I saw one of these products for sale online but the price is way a lot more expensive than the package that I bought at a bakery store here in Penang. Selamat mencuba |

It was a bright beautiful Saturday afternoon. However, it was still too hot for Ammar to go out and play soccer and too warm too for me and Nadiah to go out. I was recently inspired by some of the FP's that feature homemade noodles eg: http://mamafami.fotopages.com/ and http://rossyabakes.fotopages.com/. Wobencik looked busy in front of the laptop and studying, I hope. So the three of us printed the recipe from MamaFami's FP and set to work. First it was the dough, then let it rest for about an hour, then it was fun time for Ammar and Nadiah, putting the dough through the pasta machine and experimenting the likely thickness for the noodles/mee, then watching the rolled dough turned into noodles. While Ammar and Nadiah were getting the noodles ready, I prepared the kuah. This time there was no recipe, just campak-campak whatever happened to be in the freezer and looks promising for a good kuah mee, which happened to be some prawns, squids, tulang daging.
| Quote: | rossya - pasai apa nak sepinggan - semua orang kan budget dapat dua pinggan so kalau rossya mai, kena makan dua pinggan jugalah
kuzi/luq: kuzi, luq dah angkat tangan boleh jadi pembantu masak cinnamon roll, em bestnyer...
MamaFami: bila ada anak anak tolong masak ni rasa best sangat kan, |
And an hour later, everybody sat down and had at least two serving of mee kuah per person. Wobencik and Abah had the biggest smiles that afternoon. There is more than just a good wholesome meal in this homemade dish. What we enjoyed most was the togetherness and sharing and talking while working on the flour and rolling it to noodle

we had KFT, yes, this is the correct acronym KFT for lunch...
KFT stands for Kakak Fried Tofu, not the KFC - tu lah yang ayam goreng tu...
We had a wonderful week end, kakak was home, wobencik also came back for a weekend break from his hostel, we would have loved it more had abangah been home too but he was tied up with assignments last week end
KFT ni idea kakak and pak uda- she said it's simple, nutritious, sedap, doesn't take too much time to prepare and most important - it is in total agreement with her budget as a student.
Kakak Fried Tofu
6 keping Tofu or some says Tahu
marinate the tofu/tahu with salt and tumeric then coat the tofu with seasoned flour that people normally use to fry chicken (any make/brand will do)
if you like, sprinkle some pepper too
marinate for about 15-20 minutes or if you can't afford to wait, it can be cooked right away.
| Quote: | Rossya: tambah kicap cili api, 2 keping sorang tak cukup ni....
Kuzi: cuba try - macam orang Kedah selalu kata...
kakak: next time kakak balik, kita plan masak lagi OK
MamaFami: baguslah cadangan MamaFami tu, kalau buat tofu sendiri lagi bagus... |
